Brad Miller, Chicago Bulls get Rondo'd

With the series between the Boston Celtics and Chicago Bulls tied at two, late in overtime of the pivotal 2009 NBA Playoffs Game 5 of the first round, Brad Miller found out what it means to get Rondo'd.

We had thought getting Rondo'd meant running marketing campaign that irks their prospective consumers. Now the term is taking on new meaning. In this case, it appears to

Late in overtime of Game 5, with 2.9 seconds left and the Celtics up by two, the Celtics defense had a huge lapse. They allowed Brad Miller to catch the ball with a lane to the basket so wide that you could drive a truck through it (complimentary clique).

Miller drove to the lane and air balled a layup after getting Rondo'd (knocked) in the face by Celtics point guard, Rajon Rondo with 1.3 seconds left. Or if you prefer he was Shaq Attacked (reference to Shaquille O'Neal punching the notorious Brad Miller in the back of the head).

Miller was treated for a bloody tooth for five minutes, while the referees reviewed the play and inexplicably did not call it a flagrant foul, which would have given the Bulls two shots and the ball. Shots Heard is not a fan of any of the two shots and the ball rules since it allows for a team to punitively be punished with a loss of a possession at cantakerous times in games. But the rule is there and it should have been called.

Do not feel too bad karma lovers. Shots Heard is going to step into the karma cosmos. In this cosmos we can decipher intent and see how karma (justice) was properly distributed. Cosmos blastoff!

Ahhh. It seems that had the flagrant foul been called, the Bulls would have stated that Brad Miller was too hurt (bloody gums) to play. Although Miller The Bulls would have then been allowed to pick the free throw shooter, who would have been Ben Gordon. Gordon would have tied the game and the Bulls would have got the ball back with a chance to win. Uh oh, the centrifical force that operates the cosmos machine is fading. We cannot see if the Bulls would have won on that possession. Though certainly Ben Gordon would have a free shot at winning the game.

Snap back to reality. As no flagrant fould was called, if Brad Miller could not shoot the free throws, the Celtics could have picked the worst free throw shooter on the Bulls roster to shoot the shots. Knowing that an Ollie ('Hoosiers' reference) would not likely step up and hit both free throws and that they would not be awarded a free posession, the Bulls patched up Miller. The 83 percent free throw shooter could have made the shots, but he choked on the first one and the Bulls would end up losing the game 106-104.

Perhaps that was karma returning for Miller's illegal screen that instead was called a foul on Celtics shooting guard, Ray Allen, fouling him out with 5:27 still left to play. With Ray Ray out, the struggling Starbury (Stephon Marbury) through up bricks as the Bulls dared him to shoot open shots.

So despite the cheap foul by Rondo, the better team for that game won and Paul Pierce's series of late game heroics were not relegated to a footnote. And should the justice come full circle, the NBA will retroactively assess Rondo with a flagrant foul two that would force him to miss Game 6 in Chicago. In that scenario, the Bulls would likely win and we could have a Game 7 that would make for a glorified re-do. It would also allow for one of the greatest first round series of all times (Only NBA Playoffs first round series to feature three overtimes) to climax in the pinnacle of sports. That pinnacle being the two sweetest words in sports, 'Game Seven.'

NBA: 2009 First Round Playoff Predictions

Eastern Conference

#1 Cleveland Cavaliers vs. #8 Detroit Pistons

Pick: Cavs

Winner: Cavs

To think that this would for sure be a knock down drag out battle a year ago. Way to trade away Chauncey Billups for Allen Iverson, Mr. Former Executive of the Year (Joe Dumars). That move may have surpassed drafting Darko Milicic with a number two overall pick.

#2 Boston Celtics vs #7 Chicago Bulls

Pick: Celtics

Winner: Celtics

The Celts did pretty well without KG, but they lost an edge when then they lost James Posey. Losing KG is unfathomable. They will struggle to beat the young Bulls.

#3 Orlando Magic vs #6 Philadelphia 76ers

Pick: Magic

Winner: Magic

The Magic will squeek by and beat a better structured, but less talented 76ers team.

#4 Atlanta Hawks vs #5 Miami Heat

Pick: Hawks

Winner: Hawks

This will be a seven game thriller. Look for some cut-throat intensity. Joe Johnson and the Hawks will fly higher than Wade. He did it all in the season, but it takes more of a team effort in the playoffs. Ask Kobe.

Western Conference

#1 Los Angeles Lakers vs #8 Utah Jazz

Pick: Lakers

Winner: Lakers

The Jazz lost their confidence at the worst possible time. If they get their heads right we still could see a series.

# 2 San Antonio Spurs vs # 7 Dallas Mavericks

Pick: Spurs

Winner: Mavericks

Tony Parker won championships partly in Tim Duncan and Manu Ginobili's shadows. Now it is time for him to show that he is a real star.

#3 Denver Nuggets vs #6 New Orleans Hornets

Pick: Nuggets

Winner: Nuggets

Chris Paul is the most efficient player in the NBA. But the Hornets will need to rely on x-factors like James Posey and Peja Stojakovic to win. That assumes that David West plays big. The odds of the Hornets clicking on all those cylinders is not great. So give this to the Nuggets, who hold home court advantage.

#4 Portland Trailblazers vs #5 Houston Rockets

Pick: Rockets

Winner: Rockets

Yao, this is your chance to shine. He is poised and the Blazers are inexperienced. He needs to take control of the series and not let it go past five.

Despite fatal tragedy, Nick Adenhart leaves behind the right legacy

A black halo and black point loomed above Scott Boras's head as he emotionally spewed his supposedly deep felt remorse about losing a baseball player and client. But this time it was different. Everybody lost out. Nick Adenhart, a promising Los Angeles Angels player had passed away, hours after pitching six shutout innings for his first major league victory.

But despite his brief career tragically being cut short, Nick did it right. He was friendly towards everyone and he battled game in and game out to reach the major leagues by only the age of 22.

For Nick, his legacy will not be pitching the final game 7 out of the World Series. But his value to those who knew him is worth much more than that. He treated everyone he met with respect and love. In this age of scandal, he was a breath of fresh air. That is why so many thousands are legitimately saddened by the passing of a person that they scarcely knew. Adenhart hit the big time, but he did not big time anybody who's pass he crossed.

Back Story

After achieving acclaimed success in the minors, Nick Adenhart finally received his chance to be in starting rotation at the start of the 2009 season. Adenhart was the number three pitcher and had brilliantly pitched six shutout innings in his first start of the season. In the sixth inning Adenhart pitched a one-tw0-three inning.

Later that night (early morning), in downtown Fullerton, Nick Adenhart was in a four passenger convertible car that was hit by a drunk driver in a mini van. The drunk driver ran a red light and t-boned into the group. Nick Adenhart, 22, Courtney Stewart (driver) of Fullerton, Henry Pearson, 25 of Manhattan Beach died. The fourth member of the group, Jon Wilhite is in critical condition. The drunk driver, Andrew Thomas Gallo, fled the scene and ran down the 91 freeway.
