Diet soda and risk of stroke, heart

Diet soda and risk of stroke, heart Want to improve blood pressure? Try to reduce intake of sugary sodas and other sugary drinks. In this way, the researchers found, could help lower blood pressure.
Previous studies have linked sugary drinks with obesity, type 2 diabetes and metabolic syndrome, a series of factors that boost the risk of heart disease and diabetes. But, this is the first study to demonstrate the role of sweetened drinks in increasing blood pressure. High blood pressure is one of the major risk factor for heart disease and stroke.

"Reducing soda consumption will benefit your blood pressure," explained researcher Liwei Chen MD, PhD from Louisiana State University Health Science Center School of Public Health in New Orleans, was quoted as webmd.com site on Monday (24 / 5).

Blood pressure and soda

In this study, researchers involved 810 adult participants aged 25 to 79, with the condition of prehypertension or stage one hypertension. All of these participants took part in the study duration of 18 months designed to prevent and reduce high blood pressure by losing weight, exercise and diet.

Someone said to be in the condition of prehypertension if systolic blood pressure between 120 and 139 or diastolic blood pressure 80 to 89. Medium stage one hypertension if systolic blood pressure between 140 and 159 or diastolic blood pressure between 90 and 99.

Systolic blood pressure is the top number in blood pressure measure and refers to the pressure when the heart beats. Diastolic pressure, the figure below, represents the pressure between said blood detakan.Tekanan ideal if reading is less than 120/80.

Researchers found that 50 percent cut soda intake reduced systolic blood pressure of 1.8 points and 1.1 points diastolic pressure. This effect, according to Chen, is very useful. The reduction of three points equivalent to systolic blood pressure reduction in risk of death from stroke as much as eight percent and deaths from heart disease as much as five percent.

"The consumption of soda is very popular and high blood pressure is a serious health disorder. If you can reduce sugary drinks, you can reduce blood pressure in the short term and reduce the risk of heart attack and stroke in the long term." (IK/OL-5)
